The Maggie’s Light Internship
The overall goal of the program is to increase awareness and the capacity for respite and ongoing support services. The secondary goal is to provide students studying in related and unrelated fields with the opportunity to apply acquired knowledge to the issues of respite and ongoing support services. They will be required to develop and implement plans that support the Community Works goals of increasing funding and the capacity of respite and ongoing support services.
Students will present their plan in a report that is also submitted to both faculty advisors and Maggie’s Light. In addition, they are responsible for developing and organizing an even to showcase their results and findings to students, faculties and families. The ultimate result is the development of an awareness of the need for respite and ongoing support services.
The Maggie’s Light Internship Program was created in 2008 with the goal of creating respite capacity while also providing a means for students studying in related and unrelated fields to gain experience, academic credits and exposure to the needs of families caring for children with special health care needs. The program involved students at Towson University.
